Four tracks of dub house and warm ambience.

These tracks were produced in 2011-2012. Eight years later, I have very few recollections about what I was aiming for or how they were made. I suspect 1/4" tape, vintage synths, hardware effects and field recordings were all involved, but beyond that the details are hazy.

This lapse of memory contrasts with the persistence of the magnetic imprint on the hard drive where these recordings have been stored.

Musicians and music fans owe so much to the force of magnetism, and its capacity to create machine-readable patterns that endure over time.

So I decided to name these tracks after aspects of magnetic core memory, one of the earliest forms of non-volatile computer data storage. Core memory is now obsolete, but the principle on which is was based - of using electromagnetism to preserve data - has become central to so much of culture.
